I believe that the best way to understand how generative models will be used in art is by understanding them as a new medium. Just as the camera, the paintbrush, digital tools, AI is a new medium that will allow creatives to express their creativity, by repurposing the tool, using it creatively. As a new medium, AI can enable new creative operations, while it does not enable others. For example, it will enable interpolation between styles and concepts, either by combining semantically in the prompt, or by using techniques like textual inversion. We should not understand AI as something that will be used in existing art forms.
